There are five questions that each player must ask himself when deciding what school to attend and where to play your college football. They are:
1) How far away from home are you willing to travel to school? Does distance matter? Are you willing to take a plane to get to and from school? Remember, if you travel by plane, the items you can bring with you to and from school will be limited!
2) What size school would you like to attend?
If you’re looking to attend a big school, know that some classes will have as many as one hundred students in the class, and it might be taught by a teacher’s assistant, or graduate student, not a professor. If you attend a small school however, be aware you might see the same people all the time!
3) Do you want to attend a rural or urban campus?
A rural campus is one where the college or university is located in an area where it is just the school buildings on the grounds. Most of these schools have nothing outside of the campus, as far as city life, (entertainment, restaurants, athletic events), and the campus is the center of the student’s social life. An urban campus is one that is located in a city, sometimes with other building in between class room buildings. These schools have many activities outside of the campus, but are usually much larger.
4) Do you have a specific major in mind?
If you know you want to be a Marine Biologist, and major in Marine Biology, that will limit your potential schools tremendously. If you want to concentrate on a common major, such as Accounting, there are many schools that you will be able to attend.
5) How important is the cost of tuition?
Some families are fortunate enough to be able to afford any school, without regard to tuition costs. If however, your family is like millions of others, and tuition is a factor in your decision, then you need to get schools competing over you. Having several schools competing for your attendence at their school will only increase the financial aid package those schools are willing to offer. You must also apply for all the financial aid available at that school as some schools offer more financial aid (in the form of scholarships) then others.
Notice none of those questions have anything to do with playing football!
Playing football should have little to do with your choice of which college to attend. And that is true whether every Division 1 school in the country is recruiting you, or just one Division 3 school! Playing football for most will only last the four years you are in college, but your education and experiences at college will last a lifetime!
